Love Leaves Clues
Your home quietly mirrors your hearts current situation. Sometimes it’s obvious, a single chair, a cluttered lacklustre bedroom, dead dried up plants where life used to pulse. More Than She Bargained For
“Originally Amberli came to help me sell my house, the photographer was coming in 2 hours and the house was a tip. She worked fast and gutted it with me, I couldn’t believe the difference –it was night and day. She returned later after it was on the market to make specific changes related to my love life. Not only did my house sell within a couple of months, but by the time I moved out I had a new partner!”
She Planned To Surprise Him But He Surprised Her
The couples sitting room felt heavy, something in the atmosphere was off. Above the fireplace hung a painting that seemed to pull the whole room down. So I asked her about its history. She realised “It’s all I got from my divorce, and even then I had to fight for it.” Suddenly it all made sense to her, every evening her and her husband sat with a symbol of her past struggle and loss.
We replaced it with a painting she and her husband had bought together on their honeymoon. It even matched the room’s colours perfectly. The change was instant, the whole space seemed to exhale.
That evening, without knowing any of this had happened, her husband came home with a bunch of flowers, something he had never done before!
The Heart of the Home
During one of my Feng Shui night classes, a woman suddenly gasped. She realised that her divorce papers were stored in the centre, the heart of her home.
Over the years, I have come to recognise the significance of this key area. It feeds into all the other life areas (just as your wellbeing does) and it is also where all the life areas meet (just as all life areas affect your health)
No wonder she’d found it so hard to move on; the past had literally become the emotional centre of her house.Once she saw it, she couldn’t wait to remove them, as she had found a way to let go physically so she could move on mentally and emotionally.
Separated But Not In The Usual Way
She'd been single for ten years. Not for lack of trying, she was open, and warm but somehow every relationship fizzled before it found its footing.
When I visited her home, one feature stood out immediately: a staircase that split the
house clean in two, right through the centre. In Feng Shui, such a divide can symbolise separation, a subtle message splitting the house in two suggesting that partnership and unity will be hard to sustain.
She recognised immediately how own home reflected her life “That’s exactly how it is” she said. “There is a split in my love life"
We worked together to cure the situation and within weeks, her energy shifted and she met someone special, but this time, it lasted.
Their Relationship Didnt Need Fixed
In the relationship area of their home, nearly every relationship help book imaginable filled the shelves, I had never seen so many! She’d been trying so hard to make things better between her and her husband that, without realising it, the books had become like a wall between them, resonating with the message something’s broken that needs fixing.
When her husband came home for lunch, he listened, smiled, and rolled up his sleeves to help. Together, they cleared the shelves and replaced them with their wedding album and books about things they both loved. We framed a photo from their wedding and added two candles beside it. That’s when the whole room seemed to exhale. You could feel it, that's the moment a couple remembers love itself doesn’t need repairing.
Sometimes, the heart doesn’t need more information. It just needs room
to be met where it already is.
When she came to me, she couldn’t understand why love never seemed to stick.
Her sitting room had an awkward angled wall leaving almost no space for a relationship area in feng shui terms. In that tiny corner sat a broken hi-fi and a stack of old mix tapes, made by different boyfriends back in the cassette days.
The message couldn’t have been clearer: her love life was missing, broken and she was stuck in the past.
We cleared the space, fixed the layout, and replaced those relics with symbols of partnership and harmony. Within weeks, she met someone new!
Connecting
He spent every night on the phone, following up with clients while she sat alone watching TV.
I opened a dark cupboard under the stairs, and there they were in amongst some clutter: three broken phones.
I explained that their relationship didn’t need a divide between them, it needed a divide between them as a couple and the business.
We created a new plan with a boundary around their relationship symbolised in their home.
They ceremoniously threw the phones away and since then they rekindled their relationship and he made himself less avalable for business and more available for their relationship. Last I heard they were happy and had a new born daughter.
Working Hard At Love
He told me relationships felt like hard work.
When I stepped into his bedroom, I could see why, every wall was covered with sketches of people working; digging in groups, laying bricks, carrying large sacks.
He laughed when I pointed it out. None of it had ever registered before.
We took them down and replaced them with lighter, more relaxed images that spoke of connection and flow.
The following week, life started working for him instead of against him, he was asked out twice, and landed two surprise job offers that he hadnt anticipated.
Blocking Your Own Love Life
When I met a client who couldn’t seem to meet “the right one,” her kitchen quietly revealed the reason. In her relationship corner hung a painting of wine and flowers beside a clock which turned out to be echoing her unspoken rule: “If a man doesn’t bring me wine or flowers on the first date, he doesn’t get a second.” I asked her if they knew about this rule? Once she saw how her space had been mirroring that expectation, we both laughed. Thats all it took to desolve the rule, and so the wait was over.
Widow Opens Her Heart to Love Again
When May reached out, she was torn. Years after losing her husband, she'd met someone new, yet guilt kept her heart heavy. She told me she felt disloyal even imagining being happy with a new partner.
In her bedroom, were two model cannons pointing directly at her bed. They emphasised that heavy feeling of disapproval and guilt, especially as her late husband had made them.
Instead of removing them entirely, we created a new space for them in his workshop, arranging them alongside his favourite pieces as a small shrine to honour his life and creativity. Then, together, we started clearing out her wardrobe of his old clothes to let go of her old life and make room for her new life. She found the experience cathartic. Later she told me the weight in her chest had lifted and she felt at peace, free to love, without having to let go of her memories.
When she married her new partner, I was honoured to be at their wedding as a guest.
Not A Romantic Goodbye
From a feng shui perspective her home ticked the boxes. A romantic picture of a sun set adorned the wall of her relationship area. But something felt off. I asked her how she had come to own the picture. It turned out her boyfriend had given it to her when she was hoping they’d move in together.
It was identical to one he already had in his flat. Her hopes and dreams were crushed She took it as a sign he didn’t want to build a life with her, and soon after, they split up.
(sometimes my work is heart breaking...)
Years later, she still had that same picture hanging in her home, perfectly placed from a Feng Shui perspective, yet frozen in time and meaning.
When she realised the relevance of its history she took it down, and within half an hour her phone rang, she was asked out on a first date. (...but the aim is to heal the heartache and love again)
Each of these true stories began the same way with my client feeling stuck, unseen, or disconnected in love. They were curious about what feng shui could offer and just as their gutt instinct said, their home revealed what words could not.
